Guide the snake along the creek bank, eat the fruit and keep clear of your own tail. Every stage asks for a set number of fruit; from stage two, rocks appear and the snake gets quicker.
How Creek Snake works
The snake moves on its own; you only choose where it turns. Each fruit makes it two segments longer and adds to your score. Eat the number of fruit shown under the stage counter and the stage is cleared: the snake is set back to its starting lane, a new rock layout appears and the pace rises a little.
In Walls mode the border is solid, and running into it ends the game. In No walls mode the snake leaves one side and comes back on the opposite one, so only rocks and your own body can stop you. Biting yourself ends the game in both modes.
Now and then a gold star appears. It is worth more the sooner you reach it and fades after a few seconds, so decide quickly whether the detour is safe.
Easy starts slowly and asks for 10 fruit per stage, Normal asks for 12 and Hard for 14 at a clearly higher speed. Rocks are laid out from the board's seed in mirror-symmetric patterns, every open cell can be reached and there are no dead-end pockets, so no stage is impossible.
Controls
- Keyboard
- Arrow keys or WASD steer. Pause with P or Esc; M mutes or unmutes.
- Phone
- Swipe anywhere on the board: every short stretch of a swipe is one turn, so one long swipe can make an S-bend. The arrow buttons under the board do the same.
- Queue
- Up to three turns are remembered ahead of time. A turn straight back into your own neck is ignored rather than fatal.
Tips from the creek bank
- Plan the way out before the way in. Fruit in a corner is the classic trap: go in along the wall, not across the middle, and you will have room to turn back.
- Keep the body tidy. Long parallel sweeps leave big open areas; zig-zagging cuts the board into small pockets that become traps once the snake is long.
- Use the queue. Two quick swipes make a U-turn in one motion, which is how you slip through a one-cell gap between rocks.
- With No walls the border is a shortcut. A fruit on the far left is often closer through the right-hand edge.
- Let some stars go. The bonus is tempting, but a long detour at high speed costs more games than it wins.
Questions
Does the game keep my progress?
Yes, in this browser. An unfinished game is saved when you pause or switch tabs, and the next visit offers Continue. Records and your days in a row stay in local storage on this device; nothing is sent anywhere.
Why did my turn not happen?
The snake ignores a turn straight back into itself, and it keeps at most three turns in the queue. If you swipe very fast, make each swipe a little longer than a fingertip.
What is the dawn round?
One board per day for each game, the same for every visitor, played at Normal difficulty. Your attempts go into today's table, and finishing a game on consecutive days builds a streak.
Can I hide the arrow buttons?
Yes. Open Settings in the game menu and switch the on-screen buttons off; swipes keep working anywhere on the board.
